This pleasantly compact zoo is ideal for families with young children, as the kids won't get over stimulated by an endless succession of animals, or find walking around too tiring. In addition to the kinds of animals you might expect to find in captivity—such as lions, hippos, and tigers—Auckland Zoo also gives visitors the chance to see creatures native to New Zealand, including the kiwi and tuatara. The daily keeper presentations help families get the most from their visit and learn more about everything from tarantulas to Galapogos tortoises and giraffes. One of the more unique and special experiences is seeing the Asian elephant, Burma, come out of her enclosure and walk around the zoo with her keeper.
