This landmark café on the Zurich riverfront since 1911 has attracted all kinds of bohemians, intellectuals, artists, and revolutionaries throughout the ages, from Lenin to Kafka—thus cementing its reputation as an "other-friendly" venue. More a brasserie than restaurant, the place looks like it hasn't changed since its opening, with tiny tables, chatty characters, mirrors, and tiled floors. Outside seating is fabulous for a drink and people watching and makes for much easier breathing since everyone inside seems to be working on at least three cigarettes each. As the night goes on the crowd becomes markedly gayer, until you could swear it's a queer café through and through.
