Overlooking gorgeous views of the city below, this is a fully reconstructed office of the gay German writer and Nobel Prize winner who wrote the famous queer novella Death in Venice (based on his own experiences pining after a boy in Italy). Mann lived in Switzerland for most of his latter life, and here his personal affects are scattered all over his desk, shelves are lined with his books, his letters are displayed under glass, and there's a gorgeous painting above his sofa of naked boys bathing. (Mann's diaries, unsealed in 1975, tell of his struggles with his sexuality throughout his life.) Located in an unassuming building near the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and only open on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. A great pilgrimage for any lover of queer literature.
