  • These magnificent Renaissance gardens designed for the Medici when they owned adjacent Pitti Palace are the city's most completely child-friendly attraction. There's statuary, fountains, grottos, wooded pathways, and green spaces for peaceful picnicking and moseying away from lines and crowds. With no cheap eats in Florence, stop at one of the markets (attractions themselves) for picnic food.
  • Good to know: Michelangelo statues once stood in the park, but they're all copies now. The main entrance is at Pitti Palace (other entries are often closed without notice), whose courtyard also has the nearest restrooms. And yes, there's an admission charge to get into the Gardens.
  • Bring your copy of Kids Go Europe: Treasure Hunt Florence, by Ellen and Marvin Mouchawar (it fits in kids' pockets) and read it in a shady spot to pick your next sightseeing option--this interactive book has cool info about Boboli Gardens, too.
