Opened in July 2008 by Baris, a local gay nightlife celeb and bear lover, Barisik is bear central in Istanbul, although it's not the only bear bar in town and is also a friendly place for older gay men to cruise through. Music is a mix of the latest European hits and a lot of Turkish Pop. Baris is an affable host who keeps the atmosphere warm and light, and the place stays open late, until 7 A.M! Lots of events and local musicians are here as well. It's a good bet if you're new in town and on the large and/or hairy side but don't expect much from the décor, which looks a bit like early ‘80s teen basement, with white walls, tall, skinny tables, and, naturally, disco balls.
