It's always the queer sunbathing spot of choice, but Sunday is the biggest day on the sand. The wide sidewalk and bike lane popular with locals working out along the beach adds to the joys of people watching. Oceanfront Casablanca Café, one block north at Alhambra, is a good nosh spot to break up the baking time. If you want to cruise the entire beach strip, lovely, underutilized Hugh Taylor Birch State Park one mile north rents bikes and Segways.
