One of two public spaces on Saturna Island, East Point Park is known as one of the best places in the Gulf Islands to see killer whales from shore. Pods of orcas pass by on most days between May and November. Part of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve, East Point has an 1888-built lighthouse and an unusual weathered-sandstone shoreline. To the right of the lighthouse, a trail leads down to a stunning picnic spot on a rock ledge over the breaking waves. Bring binoculars; the place is teeming with birds. And keep an eye out for harbor seals, too.
