A lookout point in the park offers views of Active Pass, a wildlife sanctuary that is also the busiest channel in the Gulf Islands. The narrow passage between Galiano and Mayne islands is host to thousands of Brandt's cormorants, Pacific loons, Bonaparte's gulls, and bald eagles. Sea lions, seals, porpoises, and pods of orcas frequent the pass, along with ferries, sailboats, freighters, and fishing and pleasure boats. From the Sturdies Bay Ferry Terminal, it takes about 1.5 hours to hike the four-kilometer (2.5-mile) stretch to the Bluffs Park viewpoint. In the park, a marked trail leads to the 122-meter-high (400-foot-high) lookout.
