Salt Spring Island's long-running Saturday Market is a showcase for local creation and ingenuity. The festive and social event features more than 140 vendor tables and a homespun guarantee—vendors themselves "make it, bake it, or grow it." From April to the end of October, rain or shine, the market takes place Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centennial Park in downtown Ganges, the island's main community. Tents, stalls, and tables line the perimeter of the waterfront park with an array of handicrafts and foods. There are farmers, potters, jewelers, woodworkers, fiber artists, and others. Elsewhere in the green space, musicians and drummers have jam sessions and families spread out blankets to enjoy picnics—and the community spirit.
