The trail to Mont Jacques-Cartier—Quebec's second highest summit—is a grind. While just five miles round-trip, the trail climbs 1,525 feet of tough scrambles over rock debris. Hiking boots with ankle support are strongly recommended. One-third of the route crosses bare land blasted by wind. The trail crosses through the main habitat of the Gaspésie caribou. Hikers cannot use their own vehicles to reach the trailhead, but shuttle service runs daily from the Discovery and Visitors Centre.
