Fort San José is built on outer island of harbor, the Island of Bocachica. It is one of the two outermost forts which provided early protection of ancient Cartagena.

Fort San Jose is located on the Island of Bocachica and was one of the defensive structures built by the Spanish to protect the port of Cartagena from attack. Today, the fort is a beautiful place to visit, and nearby are some of the city's best beaches.
