Parts of the once-thriving 2nd-century Lycian city of Simena are now below the ocean, thanks to a series of earthquakes. It's a protected area where no one is allowed to swim or dive, so the best and pretty much only way to take in these fascinating ruins is via glass-bottom boat (nearby Kas has many tour operators). Since the ruins are only a few feet below the surface, you can catch good glimpses of the houses, amphoras, and staircases that remain. Boat trips usually stop for a swim in other areas of the bay, as well as a visit to other on-land ruins that include castles and huge stone tombs.
