Located in the campground area by campsite #106, Ancient Dunes Nature Trail provides a 2-mile hike through ancient dunes now covered with a semitropical hardwood forest comprised of live oak, laurel oak, southern magnolia, and a smattering of slash pine. This nature hike offers interpretive signs depicting the geology and plant life found at Anastasia.
The park staff offers scheduled walks throughout the year with advance reservation. In addition, campfire talks held during the summer months cover subjects including the park's ecosystem and varied plant life and wildlife.
Much of the recreation at Anastasia State Recreation Area is centered on the beach. Outdoor enthusiasts will find a variety of enjoyments including viewing fabulous wildlife and beautiful scenery, attending talks and programs throughout the year, fishing, swimming, hiking, and picnicking. Also, Salt Run offers a place for sailboarders, canoeing, and sea kayaking.
