The first portion of the Lake Michigan Trail (near the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center) is the Sandy McBeath Memorial Trail, a hard-surfaced, raised trail for the physically challenged. This wheelchair accessible portion of the trail gives visitors an opportunity to experience the solitude of the sheltered backdune, to see the wildflowers of spring, and hear the diversity of bird songs.

Directions: From Fruitport, MI, Take US-31 to the Pontaluna Road exit and head west on Pontaluna Road two miles. From the park entrance, follow signs to the visitor center, where the trail begins.
