Beginning off County Road 344, just .7 mile is the Bash Bish Trailhead. This trail along with several others start from this trailhead. To access South Taconic Trail-North, angle west across Route 344, following the white-blazed path. At .2 mile, bear left onto an old forest road narrowing into a stand of hemlock and pine. A red-blazed trail intersects at .5 mile and for the next 1.2 miles a number of side trails enter your white-blazed route. At 2.5 miles, a short spur trail offers a quick excursion to Sunset Rock, elevation 1,788 feet. The surrounding area along with the distant Catskills and Hudson Valley are visible. From the main trail, the terrain levels off and widens once again. Shortly, the trail reaches Sunset Rock Road. This is the location where you may have shuttled a return vehicle. You may also retrace your steps back to Bash Bish Trailhead or you may continue on .5 mile to Prospect Hill, elevation 1,919 feet.
Directions: From Copake Falls, NY, Take County Road 344 east for a mere .7 mile to reach the Bash Bish Falls Trailhead. Follow white blazes uphill across County Road 344.Spotting a vehicle: From Copake Falls, travel Cemetery Road north onto North Mountain Road. Proceed 1.4 miles to Sunset Rock Road on the right. Parking is available about 1 mile down on the right.
