Located in the West Beach area, Yaupon Trail makes a 0.75-mile loop through pine flatwoods. This is a handy trail for folks visiting the Governor's Picnic Pavilion or the surrounding picnic grove. It is an easy trail that stretches down to Big Lagoon and back again to the pavilion. A resting bench offers a chance to stop and soak up the scenery.
Much of the recreation at Big Lagoon State Recreation Area is centered on the lagoon and Gulf. Outdoor enthusiasts will find a variety of enjoyments including viewing wildlife from a 40' observation tower, attending talks and programs throughout the year, snorkeling, fishing, swimming, camping, and picnicking. The 500-seat amphitheater with its additional meeting space and equipped kitchen is great for conference and reunions.
