This lovely spit of land has the characteristics of a barrier island with beautiful resort homes and upscale shopping, yet harbors a healthy ecosystem.

Just south of the developed tourist and residential areas of Amelia Island, Amelia Island State Recreation Area offers over 200 acres of undeveloped sea island recreational opportunities. Pristine beaches, salt marshes and coastal maritime forests provide a glimpse of the original Florida.

Activities at Amelia Island State Recreation Area include fishing, hiking, sunbathing, beachcombing and bird-watching. One of the most popular activities is operated by a private concessionaire contracted through the Florida Park System, offering guided horseback rides along the hard-surfaced Atlantic beach. Moments away from the bustling metropolitan area of Jacksonville, this recreation-rich area boasts close proximity to a number of other oceanside state parks and state historical sites.

Amelia Island State Park is located in the northeast corner of Florida, along the Atlantic Coast, north of Jacksonville. The park is seven miles north of Little Talbot Island State Park on S.R. A1A, or eight miles south of Fernandina Beach.
