- The salmon fishing in Shelter Cove is legendary. Several charter services are available to take visitors out for a day of fishing; no experience is required. Or you can launch your own small boat and catch salmon within a mile or two of the boat ramp. The catch is mostly king salmon, but silver salmon also migrate through in mid-summer. When salmon season ends, rockfishing is popular.
- If your taste runs more to shellfish than finned fish, Shelter Cove is also a popular spot for abalone diving in the winter months. Many abalone fishermen don't bother to dive for their catch; they simply wait for the lowest minus tides of the year and then wade out on to the reefs to pry their dinner off the rocks. Be sure to check on current regulations before heading out for abalone.
