Barra del Colorado National Wildlife Refuge spans 225,365 acres, the largest in the nation. It is a network of slow-moving waterways that feed into stagnant saline pools, lagoons, and swampy marshlands. The wildlife here is varied, with large populations of monkeys and birds throughout the park. There are also some unusual amphibians which abound on the banks of streams, like smoky and glass frogs. Port fishermen have been frequenting the park for decades, taking advantage of the many types of fish that populate the park's rivers and make its lagoons their home.
