Coughed up by volcanic eruptions some 70 million years ago, the western half of Virgin Gorda is littered with elegantly poised house-sized boulders that create a jumbled topography of hideaway caves and secret passageways. The geological scenery is at its most evocative around The Baths, where the rounded granite rocks meet the sea along a sandy shoreline, yielding a maze of grottoes edged by brilliant snorkeling water. Follow the trail and ladders through the main jumble, or swim along its edge—you'll wind up at Devil's Bay, a heavenly curl of sand.
