Ripping itself up from its famed decades-old roots under a massive banyan tree on Kuhio in the late '90s, Hula's, the most famous gay bar in the Pacific, is now housed on the second story of the Waikiki Grand Hotel with views of the lush Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head from the 70 feet of open windows. There's a dance floor, DJ, video screens, and a casual lounge feel that attracts a daytime beach crowd. Most importantly, you'll find wet underwear contests happening here, so worry not! Although gay tourists in tank tops can at times outnumber locals within its walls, this bar is probably the most popular in Waikiki for kamaaina (island residents), with a mix of ages and backgrounds, because everyone always ends up here after sunning at the gay-popular Queen's Surf Beach nearby, and because happy hour is 10 AM to 8 PM daily. Owner Jack Law is a gay-rights fixture in the state, involved with many LGBT charities and festivals.
