Plan to arrive early, because the small parking lot often fills around mid-morning, and cars are turned away. Mid-afternoons are quieter after the early visitors begin leaving. The bay opens at 6 a.m. every day except Tuesday, when the preserve is closed.
Leave the driving to someone else while you enjoy the scenery. The bay is only ten miles from Waikiki, and you can catch the number 22 bus that runs down Kuhio Avenue. After being dropped off, you have a pleasant ten-minute walk down to the bay.
