Who says you need to be a diver to enjoy Palau's underwater splendor? The interpretive Palau Aquarium, a division of the Palau International Coral Reef Center (a Japanese-funded research complex), hosts an interesting indoor exhibit of Palau's diverse eco-systems: stingless mastigia jellyfish, deepwater butterflyfish, colorful dartfish, fan corals, pistol shrimp, coral crabs, cave dwelling creatures that can produce light, and of course Palau's own chambered nautilus. The outer reef exhibit, one of the largest in the world, is home to a diverse collection of fairy basslets, angelfish, and wrasses along with an array of hard and soft corals including leather corals. And the piece de resistance is the Giant Clam and Crocodile Exhibit. The Giant Clam Gift Shop also has a good assortment of marine related books, artwork, and locally-made products.
