The Batsto River, part of which runs alongside the Mullica River, is probably the least accessible of the four rivers that run through Wharton State Forest. It is also the forest's most diverse river, with sections passing through marshland and thick stands of cedar. The best way to explore the river is by canoe camping (permit required).

  • The Hampton Furnace-Batsto trip is about an eight-hour paddle, with overnight camping available.
