Following the southern lip of the gorge, South Rim Trail is an easy hike which meanders to Gorge Trail, Lily Pond and Punch Bowl Lake. It is part of the Finger Lakes / North Country National Scenic Trail.

Beginning along the same route as Gorge Trail, South Rim Trail passes the fabulous Sentry Bridge which is a beautiful stone arched bridge offering canyon views and the beautiful keyhole falls. From the bridge, bear left onto the Finger Lakes / North Country National Scenic Trail, ascending a huge staircase to the south rim. Proceed to the right along a service road to Lily Pond. Bear right traveling past the spur roads to South Entrance and to the campground villages. The wide earthen trail enters a mixed hardwood forest passing under a scenic railroad bridge. It then travels to the reaches of the gorge lip offering staggering views. The trek enters a beautiful dense hemlock stand that offers screened sights of Glen Creek. Continuing on, the trail descends to Punch Bowl Lake at approximately 1.75 miles offering views of a man-made dam, evidence of a resident beaver and healthy plant life. From the pond, you may retrace your steps or continue on the North Country National Scenic Trail.

Directions: From Watkins Glen, NY, Park entrance is off the junction of SRs 14 and 414. From the Main Entrance, the trail begins at the rear of the large parking lot. It begins along the same path as Gorge Trail.
