Most people use this trail as a return route from Gorge Trail; following a west to east trek. The hike is through a mixed hardwood and evergreen forest with lovely examples of the southern dogwood, sassafras and black cherry. Much of the trail does not offer canyon views. At 1.8 miles, the Mile Point Bridge trail enters from Gorge Trail. Shortly, you are given views of Rainbow Falls and then Central Cascade. Continuing on and then bypassing a cemetery, the trail descends abruptly reaching the suspension bridge. The connector, Lover's Lane Trail, enters from the right switching back to Gorge Trail. Within .25 mile, you'll be entering the trailhead / Main Entrance area.
Directions: From Watkins Glen, NY, Park entrance is off the junction of SRs 14 and 414. From the Main Entrance, hike the Gorge Trail from the rear of the large parking lot and use the Indian Trail as a return route, or take a shuttle to the Upper Entrance and descend this path back to the Main Entrance.
