The Canyon Trail is a 2.5 mile loop from the river to the top of the canyon and back to the river. From the main section of the park, near the showers, hikers cross a bridge over the Pecos River and turn right (south), heading gradually up the canyon wall The trail gives good views down the river and has interpretive signs describing the area's history part way up the canyon wall.

Directions: From Las Vegas, Villanueva State Park is located in the east-central region of the state, just south of Las Vegas, NM on State Highway 3.
