Tims Ford State Park, located on the Tims Ford Reservoir in the rolling hills of southern middle Tennessee, is an outstanding recreational area and fishing paradise. Long before the construction of Tims Ford Dam on the headwaters of the Elk River, the area was used extensively by the Indians as a hunting and fishing territory. Archaeological excavations uncovered numerous artifacts and occupational sites, indicating that man had occupied the area as much as 10,000 to 12,000 years ago.

The 10,700-acre Tims Ford Lake is one of the most picturesque in Tennessee and is regarded as one of the top bass fishing and recreational lakes in the Southeast.

There is a 6,790 yard, Jack Nicklaus' designed golf course is built on a peninsula surrounded by the Tims Ford Lake. The bent grass, links-style, par 71 features two notable holes: number 18, a 450 yard par 4 with beautiful views from tee to green, and the 202 yard, par 3, number 2 which requires a delicate touch from the elevated tee box. Located in Winchester, Tims Ford is just an hour-and-a-half south of Nashville and just down the road from the famous Jack Daniel's Distillery. Overnight accommodations are available at the park's 20 deluxe cabins.

The park also features several playgrounds and playfields, with activities such as badminton, table tennis, and basketball. Recreation equipment may be checked out free of charge at the recreation center.

Other points of interest are the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg and the Monteagle Winery in
Monteagle.

Location
From Manchester, take Hwy. 55 south. Go to Tullahoma (13 miles) by way of Hwy. 55. Follow Tims Ford State Park signs to Hwy. 130. Follow signs to the park (approximately 10 miles).

From the Huntsville area, take Highway 64 to Winchester and follow the signs for approximately 10 miles.

Climate
Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March bringing flowering trees and shrubs, and warmer weather. Spring temperatures average between 45 and 70 degrees. Summer's full force arrives in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. The mountains of eastern Tennessee are a great place to escape the hot summer temperatures as the higher elevation cools the air slightly. Cool fall temperatures bring crisp air and brilliant fall colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall foliage.
