- Pier fishing is allowed at the State Beach pier; no fishing license is required. Surf fishing is permitted on the beach (license required). Beginner-level kayak tours of San Simeon Cove are offered daily in summer. Wildlife such as sea otters, harbor seals, whales, and dolphins are often seen in San Simeon Cove.
- The San Simeon Bay Trail begins at William R. Hearst Memorial State Beach and leads along the blufftops to dramatic San Simeon Point, which extends nearly a half-mile into the ocean. The trail passes through a classic coastal forest of Monterey pines and cypress trees. San Simeon Point is lined with secluded coves and tidepools.
