The North Trout Nature Trail is the shortest and easisest nature trail to hike on Northern Highland / American Legion State Forest. The trail is a 1.0-mile loop that meanders around a mature black spruce-tamarack bog. It also winds its way along the Trout Lake shoreline offering beautiful lake views. Wildflowers are abundant during the spring bloom season. Look for moccasin flower, trailing arbutus, Canada mayflower, star flower, blueberry, and barren. The trail is used for cross-country skiing (ungroomed) and snowshoeing during winter. Pets not permitted on trail.
Directions: From Boulder Junction, WI, Travel east on County K taking County M south for a distance of four miles. The trailhead is located near the North Trout Lake Campground and boat launch. (Six miles north of US 51.)
