The Europe Bay - Hotz Loop explores the ancient ridges of Lake Michigan shoreline and a forested area composed of cedar, spruce and hemlock. The trail is oftentimes referred to as the most scenic hike within Newport State Park. From the Hotz Trail users will see the site of the Hotz family log cottage. The Hotz family purchased the land after the region's timber heyday and farming pursuits gone bad. Visible today is a water pump.
Directions: From Ellison Bay, WI, Take Hwy. 42 north and east for 2.3 miles to County NP. Travel south and east for 2.5 miles to South Newport Lane. Head south 0.9 mile to park entrance. Trail is accessed from fourth parking lot (north lot).
