Ancestors of the Natchez indian tribe built this ceremonial mound circa AD 1400. The second largest of its type in the nation, the mound covers nearly eight acres. A trail leads to the top.

  • Emerald Mound is roughly the size of 2.5 by 1.5 football fields, and is about 35 feet tall. The scale of this man-made undertaking comes into perspective when you consider the pancake-flat surroundings of the southern Mississippi landscape.
