The Laguna - Coast Loop Trail is a combination of three trails. The loop leads from the southern side of the Point Reyes Hostel and the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center. It begins with the Laguna Trail that climbs slightly in a southeasterly direction from the trailhead between the environmental center and hostel. Laguna Trail ends at the Fire Lane Trail after 1.8 miles.
At the next trail intersection hikers on the Laguna - Coast Loop should turn right and begin desending toward the bay. This portion of the route is known as the Fire Lane Trail. It stretches to the Coast Camp and intersects the Coast Trail in one mile. From Coast Camp the loop leads to the right along the shoreline on Coast Trail. Coast Trail is open to bicycles from Coast Camp to the hostel, a 2.8 stretch of trail.
The loop totals five miles and leads through coastal scrub and
grassland. It is exposed to sun, fog and/or wind frequently. Views of Drake's Bay and the Pacific Ocean beyond are worth the five mile trek.
Directions: From Bear Valley Visitor Center, Travel north on Bear Valley Road to Limantour Road. Turn left on Limantour Road and follow signs for the Point Reyes Hostel. Turn left at the hostel and drive past it to the trailhead. This should take 15 minutes from Bear Valley Visitor Center.
