Van Damme State Park has campsites, beach, and upland, all located on the Mendocino Coast. It is the most popular dive location north of San Francisco and is rich in historical resources connected with the redwood lumber industry.

  • The park, like many in this area, is popular with divers and abalone divers—check with local authorities on abalone diving, which is restricted to free diving.
  • There is a concession here that takes visitors on guided kayak tours off the beach; look for them in the beach parking lot.
  • The area also has ten miles of trails; check out the pygmy forest with mature cypress and pine trees standing from six inches to eight feet high.
