The backside of Molokini is Maui's signature dive site and one of the most popular wall dives in the U.S. The vertical wall drops nearly 400 feet into the deep-blue Pacific, where visibility is often better than 150 feet. Drift-diving the currents along the coral-encrusted, lava-rock wall offers opportunities to swim with reef sharks, giant Pacific manta rays, and schools of jacks—and during the winter, humpback whales can be heard singing underwater. There are no mooring or anchor points, so divers must jump from a live boat in open water, swim to the wall—descending to between 80 and 100 feet—and ride the current to a pick-up point downstream. The depth and currents make this an advanced dive, available through dive operators in both Lahaina and Kihei. (-) Close
