Little Talbot Island State Park has been a recreation destination for generations. The park acquired the tract in 1952 preventing any commercial development. There are three main areas of the park that include coastal salt marsh, oceanfront beach, and a coastal hammock. The highlight of the park is the five miles of beautiful, sandy beach. However, just as important is the maritime forest and salt marshes that stretch along Myrtle Creek.

Little Talbot Island State Park is one of Florida's largest undeveloped barrier islands; remarkably due to its proximity to urban areas. The island is actually part of chain that stretches from South Carolina down to Florida. Areas of the park seem junglesque while the oceanfront bustles with activity, however, remaining one of America's most pristine.

Fabulous beachcombing includes such treasurers as calico scallops, lion's paw, sunrise tellin, sunray shell, lightning whelk, and measled cowry. Other beach activities include surf fishing, picnicking, surfing, swimming, and sunbathing.

The campground rests near the boat launch that providing access to the estuarine waters of Myrtle Creek and Simpson Creek. The campground offers 40 full-service sites along with a large area set aside for youth / group camping. An adjoining nature trail passes through a lovely area lush with wax myrtle and red cedar.

Recreation
Little Talbot Island State Park is a very popular day use and overnight destination. Over five miles of sandy Atlantic Ocean beach entice people to sunbathe, swim, surf fish, wind surf, beachcomb and more. A four mile hiking trail explores a remote area of the park while camping along a salt marsh invite anglers to cast net. Bikes, canoes, volleyballs, horseshoes and picnic pavilions are available for rent. Bird-watching is another popular recreation. Over 200 different species have been recorded at the park.

Little Talbot Island State Park is located about 17 miles northeast of Jacksonville, directly off A1A.

Climate
Summers in northeastern Florida are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Summer temperatures average in the low 80's Fahrenheit (27 - 28 Celsius). Mild winter temperatures average below 52 degrees Fahrenheit (below 11 Celsius). Freezing temperatures are infrequent but windy conditions are common. The average precipitation for the northeast area is between 52 and 56 inches per year. Light, loose fitting clothing is recommended in spring, summer and fall. Layered clothing is recommended for winter. Biting insects are common throughout the year and are especially heavy from late April through early June.
