Of the 15 miles of trails found within Lake Hope State Park, perhaps Hope Furnace Trail is most traveled. The hike winds for 3 miles along the north and west shores of sparkling Lake Hope. Beginning in a large open picnic area, the trail passes a scenic backwater wetland. Once you make your way up a slight ascent, the trail levels out much of the route. However, several dips to low-lying creekbeds that tend to be tricky - expect wet feet during times of high rainfall. Noteworthy nature along the trail includes lovely hemlocks and signs of beaver activity.

Directions: From Zaleski, OH, Travel north on State Route 278 about 5 miles to reach the park. Park office provides trail maps.
