If you want to take a hike with the most scenery per step taken, the 2.2-mile White Rock Mountain Loop should be at the top of your list. The entire loop takes place atop White Rock Mountain, a peak with extensive views in all directions from atop sheer vertical bluffs. These bluffs, which circle the mountain, all occur around the same elevation, and the hike is mostly level. The hike leaves the trailhead to shortly join the aforementioned bluff then begins its journey along the edge of the mountain, first heading north then curving back around to the south end of the crest where the greatest view occurs from the Sunset Shelter. The trail then curves back to the trailhead, availing views that extend all the way to the Arkansas River Valley. Bring your camera, and try to time your visit with the clear days of spring, fall, or winter to gain maximum appreciation of the extensive views.
