The easy 1.5-mile trails leads visitors from the dunes along Chesapeake Bay to beside the bird banding stations used for research. Since 1963 Kiptopeke has been site to migratory bird research. The coastal area funnels thousands of raptors and songbirds each fall. This trail also passes a lovely butterfly garden where the migratory Monarch butterfly frequents.
Directions: From Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, This serene park is located on Virginia's eastern shore three miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel on Rt. 13. Be prepared to pay a hefty one-way bridge toll. Follow the main park road until you come to a large picnic, playground, shelter and observation deck on your left. The trail begins behind the observation deck.
