This 13-mile round-trip hike will take you up a glacier-carved valley to pretty lakes set beneath high ridges. You can visit on a long day hike or spend a night or two for a more leisurely exploration. From 8,790-foot Christmas Meadows Trailhead, the path heads southeast and climbs 1,950 feet first to 10,360-foot Amethyst Meadows and many good camping spots, then to Amethyst Lake at the head of the basin. To reach the trailhead, follow Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (UT 150) 45.8 miles from Kamas, then turn right and follow Christmas Meadows Road four miles. The turnoff on UT 150 is 0.6 miles south of the Bear River Ranger Station.
