Actually a 12-mile loop in the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, Carter Taylor Trail does have a trailhead within the state park. Hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders are invited to cross both field and forest where they will experience a pleasant mix of scenery. The thin forest is comprised primarily of red oak, hickory, beech, yellow poplar, sweet gum and pine. White-tailed deer are commonly spotted especially at dawn and dusk. The observant trailblazer hears songbirds and woodpeckers.
Users should wear blaze orange during hunting season!
