A nice easy walk through a typical Virginia hardwood forest.

Dogwood Ridge Trail is an easy 1-mile loop that takes the hiker through a forest of red oak, hickory, beech, yellow poplar, sweet gum and pine located above the picnic grove. It travels across both old service road and slender dirt path.

Directions: From Appomattox, VA, Travel 4.5 miles north on Rt. 24. Turn right on Rt. 626 and travel 2 miles to Rt. 640. Turn left onto 640 and at 0.2 mile, turn right onto Rt. 692. Park entrance is about 1.5 miles. From the park entrance go all the way down to the lake parking area. Dogwood Ridge Trail begins in this vicinity.
