This 1-mile trail begins with a gradual climb along side a stream. There is a steep switchback that becomes a gradual grade until the trail intersects with Middle Ridge Trail. The trail blaze is orange and ends at Molly's Knob. The large loop, combining Lake Trail, CCC Trail and Molly's Knob is approximately 5 miles in length with varying terrain and difficulty. Complimentary trail maps are available at various locations throughout the park.

Directions: From Marion, VA, Hungry Mother is located in Smyth County, Virginia. Take Exit 47 off Interstate 81. Travel for one mile on Rt. 11 toward Marion. Turn right on Rt. 16 north and travel four miles to the park entrance. After passing the contact station, continue on the main park road past the cabin area until the road dead-ends at a parking lot. Begin on Molly's Knob Trail heading west for approximately 1 mile where it intersects with Lake Trail. Take Lake Trail for about 3 miles until it intersects with Middle Ridge Trail. Continue straight on Lake Trail or head south onto Middle Ridge Trail to reach CCC Trail.
