This moderate 6.2-mile trail is blazed in navy-blue. It is ideal for those who like to meander. This wide trail parallels the lake and then turns inland to intersect with the middle portion of Ridge Trail. The trail then turns back toward the lake and terminates near the park's boat ramp parking area. The hiker may choose to turn around at this point or continue across the parking lot to the beginning of the CCC Trail which intersects with Ridge Trail. The large loop, combining Lake Trail, CCC Trail and Molly's Knob is approximately 5 miles in length with varying terrain and difficulty. Complimentary trail maps are available at various locations throughout the park.

Directions: From Marion, VA, Hungry Mother is located in Smyth County, Virginia. Take Exit 47 off Interstate 81. Travel for one mile on Rt. 11 toward Marion. Turn right on Rt. 16 north and travel four miles to the park entrance. After passing the contact station, continue on the main park road past the cabin area until the road dead-ends at a parking lot. Begin on Molly's Knob Trail heading west for approximately 1 mile where it intersects with Lake Trail.
