Deer Trail is an old logging road and is fairly open. The trail runs through two distinct forested areas; a beech and maple forest and a large hemlock thicket. In the spring and fall, vernal and autumnal pools found along the trail are filled with various amphibians. Deer Trail is also an excellent trail for bird watching and owl calling. As the name implies, deer are frequently encountered along the path. Insect repellent is suggested during the warmer months.
