This trail is an easy 1.6-mile loop. It connects the two highest peaks on Haw Orchard Mountain, Big Pinnacle and Little Pinnacle. Both peaks are above 5,000 feet. The hiker will experience a variety of plant life from northern hardwoods to beautiful forests of spruce to thickets of azaleas, rhododendron, mountain laurel, huckleberry, minniebush and witch-hazel. The trail is blazed with red markings.
Directions: From Damascus or Independence, VA, The park is located on U.S. 58 midway between Damascus and Independence, Virginia. From I-81 take Exit 45 in Marion, head south on RT. 16 to U.S. 58 which runs through Volney, Virginia. Turn right onto U.S. 58 and travel approximately eight miles to the park entrance. From I-77, take Exit 14 to U.S. 58 West and travel approximately 40 miles to Volney, Virginia. Continue west on U.S. 58 for approximately 8 miles to the park entrance. Twin Pinnacles Trail intersects with Big Pinnacle Trail which is a steep .4 mile climb from the Massie Gap parking area. The hiker may also choose to begin the trail directly behind the visitor center.
