  • In addition to the pentagonal fort itself, Fort Macon offers a mile and a half of beach for the hiking. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and maybe a coat.
  • Birders have spotted more than 302 different species in the park.
  • A great spot for watching the dolphins zip around in the water after fish. If you'd rather compete with them than watch them, bring a pole and enjoy some excellent surf-fishing.
