Mt. Willard Trail and Avalon Trail overlap during the first few steps then split westward and southbound.

From the AMC's Information Center located on the west side of US 302 just before entering Crawford Notch State Park, Mt. Willard Trail begins. This is a fairly short trail with a wide path, formerly a carriage road, and lovely vistas almost from the very beginning. The trail overlaps with Avalon Trail a very short distance until they split and Avalon Trail heads westward while Mt. Willard Trail heads south. The trail is only 1.6 miles in length to the terminus at Mt. Willard Summit. Near the terminus is a short spur trail leading to the head of Hitchcock Flume and another great vista. Unlike many of the other area state and national trails, this trail is not part of a network of trails, therefore, you must retrace your steps back to the Information Center.

Directions: From Fabyan, NH, Travel about 3 miles south on US 302 to reach the AMC Information Center. The trail begins as an overlapping trail with Avalon Trail.
