More than a million people visit Heckscher State Park each year. The park rests on the shores of Great South Bay making it attractive to swimmers, boaters and anglers. Over 20 miles of multi-use trails are heavily used. Sixty-nine campsites are offered.

Heckscher State Park has more than a million visitors a year. Twenty miles of trails attract hikers, bicycle and cross-country skiers. Swimmers can use the Great South Bay or the swimming pool complex. There are picnic areas, a boat launch ramp, play fields, playground and 69 campsites. Only vehicles under eleven feet high can come into the campgrounds. In addition, the 32-mile Long Island Greenbelt Trail passes through the park.

Recreation
Heckscher State Park offers a swimming beach, a swimming pool, a bike path, boat launch site, fishing site, a nature trail, hiking trails, picnic shelters, picnic tables, a children's playground, play fields, recreation programs, showers and tent and RV sites. The park is also open in winter for cross-country skiing. Many of the facilities are handicapped accessible.

Resting on the shores of Great South Bay, Heckscher State Park may be accessed by traveling SR 27 to Southern State Parkway.
