The two-mile loop trail is located in the Thompsons Bridge Area along the banks of Brandywine Creek. The green-blazed trail begins from the south side of the parking lot along the bike path. About a third of the route follows the creek bed with wooded ridges rising on the left. Shortly after crossing Rocky Run, the trail emerges into pine woodland then ascends a hillside towering above the creek. Following the route can be difficult with so many intersecting trails and a blaze the color of nature itself. Dense hardwoods embrace you along on the second third of the trail, linking to Horseshoe Trail on the east. Bear left shortly after passing the second juncture with orange-blazed Horseshoe Trail. Rock hop over Rocky Run, turn right and climb about 25 feet, then bear left. You'll come upon a clearing where a side trail leads to youth camping. (Contact park personnel for overnight details.) Continuing along the green blazes takes you into a conifer forest where another climb waits, this time spilling onto a ridge only to descend within minutes onto Thompsons Bridge Road. Once you reach the road, take it to the left hiking a short distance to the trailhead parking on the left.
Directions: From Wilmington, DE, Travel State Route 100 about 2 miles north of town to the intersection with State Route 92. Proceed on SR 92 about 1.4 miles to reach the Thompsons Bridge Area. Trailhead is at the south side of the parking area.
